Gutology Prebiotic Deodorant - USUpdated a day ago
WHAT IS THE GUTOLOGY PROBIOTIC DEODORANT?
Our Skin Biome+ Deodorant is a microbiome-first deodorant, not just another natural one. It extends Gutology’s probiotic thinking from your gut and mouth to your underarm skin. Instead of disrupting the bacteria on your skin, it works with your skin’s natural ecosystem to support freshness from the inside out.
It comes in a 40ml aluminium roll-on-bottle, designed with refillability in mind for the future.
WHAT ARE THE FULL INGREDIENTS?
Aqua, Glycerin, Sodium Bicarbonate, Pentylene Glycol, Tapioca Starch, Brassica Oleracea Acephala Seed Oil, Brassica Oleracea Italica Seed Oil, Zinc Ricinoleate, Sodium Stearoyl Glutamate, Inulin, Acacia Senegal Gum, Polyglyceryl-2 Caprate, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Xanthan Gum, Propanediol Dicaprylate/ Caprate, Citrus Limon Peel Oil, Lavandula Angustifolia Oil, Fructose, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate, Bombax Costatum Flower Extract, Maltodextrin, Hydrolyzed Gardenia Florida Extract, Terpineol, Pinene, Linalyl Acetate, Linalool, Limonene, Geranyl Acetate, Camphor, Beta- Caryophyllene, Citral.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Your underarm skin has its own microbiome, just like your gut. Traditional deodorants and antiperspirants often work by blocking sweat or overwhelming the skin’s bacteria indiscriminately. Our deodorant takes a different approach, working across three phases:
Phase 1: Odour Control
Odour is caused by certain bacteria breaking down sweat molecules. Rather than disrupting the bacteria on your skin. The formula captures odour molecules directly and adjusts the skin’s environment, so odour-causing strains are less competitive.
- Zinc Ricinoleate traps and locks away odour molecules rather that masking them
- Sodium Bicarbonate gently adjusts skin pH
- Tapioca Starch and Maltodextrin are plant-derived absorbers that help keep underarms feeling dry
Phase 2: Feed
Rather than stripping the skin microbiome, the formula actively nourishes the beneficial bacteria already living on your skin.
- Inulin is a natural prebiotic that supports beneficial skin bacteria
- Hydrolyzed Gardenia Florida Extract is a prebiotic derived from the calyxes of the red kapok tree flowers, helping to support a balanced skin microbiome
- Fructose provides a substrate that supports microbial activity
Phase 3: Protect
A healthy skin barrier is the foundation for a healthy microbiome. The formula cares for the skin itself.
- Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice shoots and hydrates
- Kale Seed Oil (Brassica Oleracea Italica Seed Oil) provides a silky, plant-based feel
- Glycerin draws moisture into the skin
WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN SWITCHING?
When switching to Gutology Deodorant your body will typically go through a 2 to 4-week detox and adjustment period.
During this transition, you may experience extra sweating or notice an initial increase in odour as your skin rebalances its natural flora (this is temporary).
Why 2-4 Weeks?
Traditional, conventional deodorants use aluminium to block your pores, your body needs time to flush out trapped chemicals.
Plus, our prebiotic-based formula takes time to properly adjust and rebalance your underarms microbiome.
Top Tips
- Give it time
- Stick with your new routine for at least a month to let your armpits fully detox.
- Reapply when needed:
Gutology deodorant is not an antiperspirant, you won't stop sweating completely. It is perfectly normal to reapply it mid-day, especially during hot weather or exercise.
HOW DO I USE IT?
- Ensure underarms are dry before applying
- Apply the rollerball in circular motions
- Allow the product to dry before dressing.
HOW LONG DOES ONE BOTTLE LAST?
The 40ml bottle is a concentrated formula. Comparable in usage to a standard deodorant stick, a 40ml bottle typically lasts roughly 6-8 weeks with regular use.
IS IT SUITABLE FOR SENSITIVE SKIN?
The formula is designed to be gentle, but individual skin sensitivities vary. If you have sensitive skin, we recommend doing a small patch test on the inside of your arm before first use. If you experience any redness, itching, or irritation, discontinue use and consult with a GP or a dermatologist.
If you have a known allergy to any of the ingredients listed above, please do not use the product.
HOW SHOULD I STORE IT?
- Store in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight
- Keep upright with the lid securely screwed on
- Avoid storing in very hot environments such as direct windowsills or car dashboards
IS IT SUITABLE FOR USE DURING PREGNANCY OR BREASTFEEDING?
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, we would always recommend checking with your GP or midwife before introducing new personal care products. This is especially relevant to the essential oil components in the fragrance blend.
WHAT IS THE INGREDIENT MAKE-UP?
All ingredients are plant-derived or synthetic where applicable, with no animal-derived ingredients or by-products used in the formula.
WHY IS THE BOTTLE ALUMINIUM?
Aluminium is one of the most efficiently recyclable materials available. Unlike many plastics, aluminium can be recycled repeatedly with no loss of quality.
Your bottle has three parts - pop them apart before recycling:
- Aluminium body - Kerbside recyclable. Give it a rinse and pop it in!
- Green cap - Also kerbside recyclable in most areas.
- Roller ball & housing - Not currently kerbside recyclable - take these to your local plastic drop-off point instead.
Tip: Twist off the cap and pull out the roller before binning, so each part goes to the right place.
HOW DOES THE REFILL SYSTEM WORK?
Our refill system is currently in BETA. The aluminium bottle has been designed with a long-term refill option in mind, and we are working towards offering refill pouches so that, rather than replacing the whole bottle, you will be able to top up and keep going. We'll share more details as this becomes available.
